Project Details
Our objective for this project was to design, furnish, and erect the structural building shell for the University of Nebraska’s new indoor practice facility in time for the Cornhusker football team’s preparations for the annual game with the University of Oklahoma.
The general contractor for the University of Nebraska’s indoor recreation center project brought in Butler Heavy Structures to help them meet the demanding schedule requested by the university’s football team. All building shell components were engineered by Butler Heavy Structures working in coordination with the school’s architect.
Even with special clearances (45′ clear at the sidelines and 66′ clear at the center) and a catwalk along one side for filming, the schedule was met. The facility featured full-height cantilevered masonry walls supported by building structurals with L/600 deflection requirements and a 3:12 roof slope. The structural system is a versatile rigid frame structural system and the building is clad with masonry and a metal panel wall system. The roof is painted, insulated, standing seam metal roof system.
